Open Access Resources

We are currently designing some training and workshops on open access publishing that will be for research students, early career researchers and graduate journal editorial boards. We are grateful to the members of the Radical Open Access jiscmail for sharing their resources and wisdom to help develop this resource.

While we are developing the courses we are excited to share the resources we have been provided, which include some useful courses and literature.

Publishing from your Doctoral Research: Create and Use a Publication Strategy http://path2publishing.com/ – Website

OpenAIRE Resources – Many thanks to Jean-François DECHAMP, PharmD

Training courses from the project FOSTER that was EU-funded some years ago, and that is now curated by OpenAIRE (another source of info).

Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) – Many thanks to: Rücknagel, Jessika

Most of our training materials are currently in German, but a few are translated. We do have some nice videos about Creative Commons licences, which are a very important aspect for any OA publication. You can find these here:

A 60 second info video regarding what is open access: https://doi.org/10.5446/50832
One of the few english talks we had is this but I assume that the videos would be far more interesting: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5146264

We created the vids to be reused so we would be delighted if you can use some of them!

http://hdl.handle.net/2299/23117

This presentation was given at the Postgraduate Research Student Conference held at the University of Hertfordshire on 24th January 2020. The presentation gives an overview of open access publishing and its benefits, specifically in regard to raising the visibility of research. Topics covered include: gold and green open access, the open access citation advantage, preprints, repositories, and open data. There are no notes on the slides, but the author can be contacted with any questions.

Open Access : How and why to publish OA
https://doi.org/10.18745/pb.23116

This presentation was given using Microsoft Powerpoint and Microsoft Teams at the Doctoral Training Alliance (DTA) Energy Summer School 2020 on 9th September 2020. There is a video/audio recording of the session available to download, as well as a PDF of the Powerpoint slides. The presentation gives an overview of the concept of open access, why it is important, how it can benefit researchers and how researchers can maximise the opportunities provided by open access publishing.

With thanks to the generosity of those on the Radical Open Access Jiscmail!
